Hey friends!
Today we sat down with the ever graceful Filsan Abdiaman! Filsan describes herself as a Kenyan, Somali, Canadian Muslim Black woman, and we would add an all around an amazing human! Filsan is a powerful runner, community builder, advocate for women and the BIPOC community, and an inspiration to us.
In this Episode Filsan shares her journey with health and wellness; navigating the mind-body connection and diving into the "why" of running. Which leads to her sharing about her own struggles with an eating disorder, and how she learned to fall in love with herself.
We also talk about
Filsan's transition from Kenya to Canadian life
The Intersectionality of running; white privileges around running and questioning & disrupting the barriers to representation
Ultra Marathons; from 5K to 100K, the challenge and motivation of being the only black woman in these races, the importance, need & barriers to representation in the running space.
Running as a catalyst to go deeper into mental health awareness
Failure as a growth opportunity
Project Love Run; the creation of and values and goals behind Filsan's running collective
How to create representation in Run Crews in a genuine and authentic way
This podcast is about running, but it is really about learning to love yourself, and being intentional about being healthy and whole, and the ability to show up for yourself and ultimately for others.
We really hope you enjoy this one, as it is truly impactful. And maybe you'll be inspired by Filsan to begin something new, like running, or writing love letters to yourself, writing poetry, or facing the challenges or demons you might be carrying.
Thanks for listening!
Peace, Z&D
